As an exercise in lighting I decided to copy this promotional photograph from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 movie Psycho (top left). I’m somewhat happy with my result (top right) but I had a limited time frame and this one shot took 4 hours of preparation so I was okay with not getting the shadow absolutely correct in the background or an exact copy of the venetian blind or particular positions of faces, identical expressions and didn’t have an extra light to light the hair but I do like the result. For the poster replication I couldn’t get the colours I wanted for particular things like the blind and clothes etc so I decided to make the poster black and white.

And for the people out there like me - I shot my copy on large format film 5x4 Fujichrome Provia 100F and scanned at 6400dpi with an Epson V750, edited in Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5
